How to Purchase NCT, Redeem and Retire TCO2 on Celo with Valora

Introduction

In this video, we will guide you through the process of purchasing NCT tokens, redeeming TCO2 (carbon credits), and retiring them using the Valora app on the Celo blockchain. By following these steps, you can contribute to offsetting carbon emissions and supporting sustainable projects. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Purchase NCT Tokens

  1. Open the Valora app on your device.
  2. Click on the Ube Swap DApp (Decentralized Application) within the Valora app.
  3. Select Celo as the blockchain network.
  4. Locate and select the NCT token.
  5. Determine the amount of Celo (CELO) you want to transfer. As of this recording, five CELO should be sufficient for one NCT token.
  6. Confirm the swap and complete the transaction.
  7. Congratulations! You now have NCT tokens in your Valora wallet.

Step 2: Redeem TCO2 (Carbon Credits)

  1. Within the Valora app, click on the Toucan DApp.
  2. Connect your wallet to the Toucan DApp.
  3. Click on “Overview” to access an overview of your wallet’s information.
  4. Scroll down and locate your NCT token balance.
  5. Select the “Redeem TCO2” option.
  6. You have two options: “Automatic” or “Selective.”
  • Automatic: This option is faster and easier. It automatically contributes to a range of countries and projects.
  • Selective: This option provides you with a rundown of the countries and projects you’ll be contributing to.
  1. Select “Max” to redeem the maximum amount of TCO2 tokens.
  2. Click “Redeem Now” and confirm the transaction using either Valora or Metamask (if you have it connected).
  3. Great job! You have successfully redeemed TCO2 tokens.

Step 3: Retire TCO2 Tokens

  1. Go back to the “Overview” section within the Valora app.
  2. Scroll down to the “Toucan CO2 Tokens” section.
  3. You will find your newly redeemed TCO2 tokens there.
  4. Scroll horizontally to find the “Retire” option.
  5. Here, you will see a rundown of the project name and the associated country.
  6. To retire all the tokens, click “Max.”
  7. Click “Continue” and then select “Retire to Offset.”
  8. Confirm the transaction once again.
  9. Congratulations! You have successfully retired carbon credits.
